MIAC 2003 – ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SHOW IN MONTREAL!

TORONTO, Ontario…………August 22, 2003

MIAC 2003, Canada’s largest music, pro audio and lighting products trade show, recently held on August 17-18 in Montreal, was one of the most successful Shows in

MIAC history.

“Our Show in Montreal this year was an unqualified success,” said Ron Larcombe, incoming MIAC President and Chairman of the Board. “We had a higher attendance than our last Montreal Show and exhibitors wrote very good business.”

This year’s sold out MIAC Show/PAL Showcase featured 120 exhibitors in Place Bonaventure with 34 companies exhibiting for the first time. Canadian dealer and industry attendance was up approximately 15% over the 2001 Montreal Show, with many attending despite the challenges of a major power-blackout affecting much of Ontario and the North Eastern US in the days just prior to the Show.

“We are very pleased with dealer and exhibitor participation this year,” said

Al Kowalenko, MIAC Executive Director. “Their enthusiasm and dedication made the Show a success, and provided an excellent foundation for our move to Toronto for the next three years.”

Strong social events also contributed to the positive results of the Montreal Show.  These included a very popular Charity Golf Tournament that raised important funds for the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, the rousing Welcome Reception and All Industry Jam (a first for the Association), and the annual MIAC Gala/Industry Party.

The PAL Showcase was expanded this year and included the PAL Lounge that featured demonstrations and seminars for pro audio/lighting professionals.  This was also the case with the “MIAC Learning Lunches” for music dealers that saw a packed seminar area and a great exchange of ideas and participant involvement.

Next year, MIAC 2004 will be held at the Toronto International Centre, August 22-23, in the new state-of-the-art Hall 5 complex.  The International Centre, located close to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, has easy highway access, free parking, and is minutes from the host hotel, the Toronto Airport Marriott. Information on MIAC 2004 may be obtained at www.miac.net and www.palshowcase.com.

With annual sales of more than $500-million USD, Canada is ranked as the sixth largest music, sound and lighting products market in the world.  Canada is also ranked fourth in per capita sales.  The Music Industries Association of Canada (MIAC) currently represents more than 140 manufacturer and distributor members, as well as more than 120 Canadian retail dealers.
